The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a research organization with over 50 years of experience, helping farmers increase their yields.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture Business Incubation Platform (IITA-BIP), is the technology delivery arm of the IITA. Through a multi-stakeholder approach, we commercialize and scale-out ground-breaking agricultural technologies and services that meet market demands. In doing so we stimulate product development and market expansion and provide expertise and training in commercial agriculture and farm management in Nigeria and Africa.

IITA-BIP aims to improve the livelihoods of farmers and their families by improving their yield and income.

IMPROVING CROP YIELD

Improving crops in Africa is one of IITA BIP’s top priorities. We achieve this by producing and commercializing improved varieties of seeds produced by IITA and making them accessible to farmers.

MAKING HEALTHY CROPS

Some of IITA-BIP’s most important work is concerned with producing and keeping healthy crops. We achieve this through NoduMax (legume inoculant) and conducting analysis and fertilizer recommendations for farmers by Cropnuts AgriServe Ltd.

IITA BIP was created to provide a platform to link research, development, commercialization, and capacity development through the establishment of full-scale production facilities, the creation of supply chain models and raw materials processing for various crops, intended for adoption, and replication by the private sector.

To create jobs, build youth agribusinesses and boost the income, nutrition, and health of poor rural women and men by providing better access to improved agricultural technologies, products and services that will enhance their agricultural productivity while sustaining natural resources.

Last year, one of our customers bought all of our products because it had been treated with AflasafeTM. The challenge now is to increase our production to meet the growing national and international demand for alfasafeTM-treated crops.

Ever since we started treating our maize with AflasafeTM, people have been calling us to buy it. We are able to fetch premium prices, and we can't produce enough to meet market demand. Most food industries do not want to buy maize and it is not aflatoxin free.

There is a price difference between regular maize and AlfasafeTM-treated maize. Companies pay a premium for AlfasafeTM-treated maize because it reduces livestock mortality, reduces the use of antibiotics, and provides better growth rates.
